Achille Mbembe on Natural State - Dictionary of Arguments

Brocker I 915
Natural State/Mbembe/Herb: Under the title "Beyond the World" ("Du hors-monde") Mbembe discovers at the beginning of the 21st century in Africa that the natural state of a society is founded on violence and fear of death. The colonial construction of the black person leads to the reduction of the African to an animal existence and to brutal objectification in social reproduction. It is true that Mbembe also recognizes Africa's "possibilities" in the "misfortune" of the present (Mbembe 2016(1), 304). On the whole, however, the "African search for self-determination" must fail.
